Gaynor Cup 2014

Wednesday June 04, 2014

The annual FAI Umbro women’s U-14 Gaynor Cup took place here in the University of Limerick for the seventh year running from the 30th May-1st of June. This prestigious tournament boasted teams from almost every county in the country. The competitions bring representative teams together to compete in three different age categories. The U-14 tournament was a stage for some fine displays of football which saw both semi-final winners claiming victories in penalty shoot outs. Galway underdogs faced Dublin Metropolitan champions in a low scoring, tit for tat final.Galway came away with the 1-0 win which banished hopes of a three-in-a-row reign for the Capital.  The U-16 tournament is due to take place later this summer. These tournaments provide the Republic of Ireland managers with an opportunity to identify potential members for Ireland's international teams.  Congratulations to the Galway U-14 Gaynor Champions and best of luck to the U-16’S in their training. We look forward to another great sporting weekend ahead of us!
